Who’s the Fascist?
France wants to be seen as oh-so-not-like-America, yet:
When four Frenchmen returned home after more than two years in the Guantanamo netherworld, they expected some questions, followed by freedom and an apology.Instead, they’ve been locked up for six weeks and are facing charges that their attorneys say mirror the vague legal world of detainees in the U.S. military detention facility in Cuba.
French officials’ response to the detainees’ return has been far more forceful than those of other European countries, and it has human rights advocates fearing the fight against terror could erode of civil liberties.
So where did the French version of the Patriot Act come from?
The charges they face stem from a law passed after a series of Algerian terrorist bombings on the Paris Metro in 1995, he said. The bombings killed 10 and injured 200.“The law implies not terrorism, but the potential for terrorism,” he said. “Get a tapped phone call from someone who associates with terrorists, or stand outside the wrong mosque at the wrong time, and it applies. The government position is that while they’re in jail, they cannot be out doing wrong.”
Says one defense attorney:
“Most of my work these days is defending Muslims from terror charges,” he added. “These are not good times for Muslims in France.”
Yeah, try being a Jew in France these days.

Very interesting post. Fascist? Hmmmm…don’t really have enough to go on. I’d say it’s just as likely that France is actually showing some sense in the war on terror. (Never thought I’d say that.) Definately worth reading more about.
Sense? How about HYPOCRISY!
France has maligned the USA for Guantanamo from its very inception and the media here was building up to a glorious welcome home to some wronged citizens upon news of their transfer here…
Of course, as soon as the media realized that the 4 were really shady enough to merit further inspection and were going to be locked up, the story disappeared.
So the outrage at their being held was all a show? Yes, it’s OK now because they are being held in France by the French and not in Cuba by the US.
Pffft.
Excellent post and Valerie is right. The Franco Fascist hypocrisy shows. They know that the thin red line in their nation is hanging on the quickly growing Muslim population and their business dealings in the Middle East, while at the same time trying to repress the Islamo Fascist who would kill them just as quickly as they’d kill any Kufr.
