Michael Strong writes on TCS that Wal-Mart raises 38,000 Chinese people out of poverty every month, suggesting Forget the World Bank, Try Wal-Mart:

Even without considering the $263 billion in consumer savings that Wal-Mart provides for low-income Americans, or the millions lifted out of poverty by Wal-Mart in other developing nations, it is unlikely that there is any single organization on the planet that alleviates poverty so effectively for so many people.

Yes, and as soon as a portion of every dollar I spend stops going towards a massive arms buildup and missiles pointed at LA, then maybe I’ll stop boycotting Chinese-made goods.

Hat tip to Division of Labour.
