Reservist Detained Aliens Not a Minuteman

The Army reservist accused of illegally holding seven illegal aliens at gunpoint says that he acted in self defense and knows little about the Minuteman Project:

At the rest stop, a man with a backpack walked passed him to a vehicle parked two spaces from his own, and six men with backpacks “rushed me,” Haab said. “Training took over, the dog got in between us, even though she is not trained at all, she acted on instinct, stopped the men, which gave me time to draw my weapon.”

Haab and his dog chased the six to the vehicle the other man had climbed into, and at gunpoint Haab told the driver to turn off the engine, grabbed their keys from the ignition, then called 911 and yelled to another parked motorist for help.

Update 20 April 05: The seven Mexicans couldn’t get their story straight:

Some said Haab, who served two tours in Iraq, took the keys from the Chevy Suburban in which they were sitting, while others said another man Haab summoned took the keys.

One of the immigrants said a second man, whom authorities are still trying to find, pointed a gun Haab gave him at the group.
