Pelosi’s “Contract With San Francisco”
The New York Times points out that Democrats and Republicans both are overjoyed at the prospect of Nancy Pelosi being the Dem choice for Speaker of the House if, God forbid, the Dems win a majority this fall. Some choice quotes:
- … the Republican National Committee chairman, Ken Mehlman, said she was neither a “New Democrat” nor an “Old Democrat” but a “prehistoric Democrat”.
- “Is America ready for Nancy Pelosi’s Contract With San Francisco?” asked Representative Ric Keller …
- “A lot of Republicans were saying, ‘We need her on TV more,’ ” said Ed Kutler, a Republican lobbyist. “Maybe we should buy ad time for her.”
Overall, the piece is fluff to portray Pelosi in a good light (it is the NYT, after all), but hopefully the paper of note will continue to remind moderates and conservatives the consequences of not voting right this fall.
Howard Dean, that bastion of liberal moonbattery, says that Dems can slice off a piece of the religious right pie. He even appeared on Pat Robertson’s “700 Club”. Of course, he had to later apologize to gay-rights leaders for lying during the program that the party’s platform said “marriage is between a man and a woman.” (But that’s OK for Dean, how many viewers saw the apology?) Of course, there’s still the whole baby-killing thing, but I’m sure Dean is prepared to lie about that too.
Speaking of Dem behavior, remember Democrat Congressman William Jefferson, the current poster boy for the left’s “Culture of Corruption”, who the FBI has on tape taking a $100,000 bribe? He’s back in the news because it turns out that while his constituents were fighting for survival in post-Katrina New Orleans, he had the Louisiana National Guard escort him through the flooded streets so he could retrieve some items from his home.
Speaking of the Dem’s Culture of Corruption, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid continues to defend himself against charges that he violated ethics rules by accepting ringside tickets to multiple boxing matches at a time when he was pressing legislation concerning government oversight of the “sport”:
The Senate ethics manual states: “Senators and Senate staff should be wary of accepting any gift where it appears that the gift is motivated by a desire to reward, influence, or elicit favorable official action.”
Here’s a thought: it is unethical to accept any gifts while a politician. Period. And if elected, that exactly what I will do. Write in “AlphaPatriot”. For anything when your other choice would be “none of the above”.
New York, that bastion of Democrat power, is the slowest state in the nation to provide access for the disabled to vote. So slow, in fact, that the U.S. Justice Department has taken it to court and is threatening to withhold some of the state’s 220 million dollars that the federal government provides for election equipment. My question: why am I, a Tennessee taxpayer, subsidizing the voting habits of anyone in New York?
Speaking of New York Democrats, Alicai Colon takes Mayor Bloomberg, that prime specimen of a RINO, to task for his Cocoon of Political Deceit:
At a speech before graduating students at his alma mater, John Hopkins University, Mr. Bloomberg embraced the left-wing agenda with a fervor missing from every phony campaign speech he gave running for re-election as a Republican. Last week in Baltimore, he railed against faith-based science, warned against global warming, and in essence, congratulated himself for making New York the abortion capital of the nation. Oh, and he hates the National Rifle Association.
