Of Freedom Doors and Rockets

After three years, they’re going back to having “French Fries” and “French Toast” on Capitol Hill.

Meanwhile, our friends enter the AlphaPatriot abode through double Freedom Doors and we put W Ketchup on our Freedom Fries.

A spokeswoman for the French Embassy noted that her country has been working “very closely” with the United States on the Middle East and that Presidents Bush and Jacques Chirac dined on french fries in February 2005.

Meanwhile, as rockets launched from civilian sites continue to rain down on Israel, France throws a hissy and cancels a Security Council meeting for the second time because they insist that everyone suddenly stop and start behaving before peace keepers can be sent in. Seriously.

France, which has proposed a draft resolution on the framework, wants fighting to stop immediately, to create a political framework for peace and then to send the troops. The United States, on the other hand, wants all of those things done at the same time.

If one could reasonably expect terrorists to lay down their arms if Israel will, then France’s proposal would be reasonable.

Problem is, terrorists aren’t. Reasonable, that is.

Then again, either are the French.

  1. If the GOP had devoted the same energy to important issues that the spend on trifles like the naming of fries, we’d probably be winning in Iraq.
Instead it’s just more bread and circuses, while the important work that needs to be done is ignored in favored of childish bullshit.

  2. AlphaPatriot says:

Don’t be silly, this didn’t take any energy at all and it effectively made a point, both to the French and to the conservative base.
Now, if the GOP would stop making a big election-year issues over flag-burning admendments, marriage “protection” amendments, and other smoke-and-mirror non-issues, maybe they could set market conditions so the energy infrastructure could be upgraded, do something about our abysmal educational system and cut the size of government down to something we can afford.
Then again, if the Democrats would work with the GOP instead of being the party protecting the status quo, maybe the GOP wouldn’t have to work so hard at getting a managable majority so that progress really has a chance of taking place.
