Meddlin’ Europeans and International Spam
The Guardian is enabling and encouraging Europeans to meddle in the U.S. election. The reader enters an email address and the Guardian sends them the name and address of a voter in Clark County, Ohio:
You may not have heard of it, but it’s one of the most marginal areas in one of the most marginal states: at the last election, just 324 votes separated Democrats from Republicans. It’s a place where a change of mind among just a few voters could make a real difference.
Sure enough, Election Projection has Bush leading in Ohio by .47%, so a few hundred thousand pieces of spam (as the closest thing to Moonbat Press in Europe, the Guardian is read on the continent as well) might influence a few voters.
BuzzMachine suggests that we get names and send emails urging the voter to write in “Tony Blair” for president.
While I agree that that is an interesting and creative method of protesting this crass attempt at international interference, I don’t see how that can offset the effect of the Guardian’s initiative.
I suggest that everyone does each of the following:
- Email Emily Bell, the editor in chief, protesting their crass attempt at meddling in our democratic process.
- Email the editor of Guardian Unlimited Politics, questioning how they would feel if we made their email addresses available and invited the American public to spam them.
- Email the Foreign Desk, asking if they approve of the Guardian’s policy of international interference in other country’s elections.
- Email the political staff, asking for ideas as to how we, as Americans, can trespass on their next election process.
- Peruse the list of other Guardian contacts to see if anyone else seems deserving of the spam fate they have wished on a few, innocent, unsuspecting voters in one American county.
Finally, if you feel you must reverse the effect (if any) of the barrage of spam that Clark County voters are getting, go to the Guardian page and get one or more email addresses of Clark County voters. Then send them an email pretending to be a concerned Frenchman, urging the voter to give up imperialistic desires and submit to the calm, intelligent leadership provided by the U.N., and furthering the cause of international order by voting for Kerry.
If that doesn’t convince them to vote for Bush, nothing will.
Update: John Gibson thinks the whole thing is a clever trick.
