China Creates Riot Police

China is setting up special units in 36 cities to counter riots and terrorist activities:

Some 74,000 protests and riots broke out across China last year, involving more than 3.7 million people, Reuters quoted Chinese Security Minister Zhou Yongkang as saying.

The most common cause of riots are land disputes or economic inequality.

For an excellent review of a land dispute “incident”, I highly recommend Blood & Treasure’s Smashing the Golden Signs.

Perhaps they should consider, I don’t know, political freedoms. Keeps rioting to a minimum but increases whining to maximum levels.
    A trade-off, I suppose.

Poor China. If citizens are rioting now, what do you think is going to happen once the Olympics get kicked off?
