Politicians object to guns. Citizens not yet in the grip of political ambition are amazingly clear thinking.

Coolest Flashlight Ever

Imagine you are walking the dog when you are suddenly confronted by a gang of knife-wielding thugs demanding your valuables. Imagine their surprise when your flashlight suddenly transforms into a machine gun.

HT to Boing Boing who notes that this weapon was demonstrated way back in 2008 but has not yet made it into production. Too bad.

What Redneck Thought of This?

Ruger 50-round drumFinally, a handgun that shoots as many rounds as the ones in the westerns I watched when growing up!

I don’t know who came up with this, but you gotta admit it looks pretty darn cool. And useful.

Now, how do I hide that under a sports jacket?

(And yeah, it’s real. Just $70 at FireQuest.)

Hot Girl, Cool Gun

In what appears to be a promotional video for LRM Custom Firearms and Suppressers, here’s a girl firing an M-169 Suppressed 9mm Upper (an M-16 conversion kit).

Irony Alert: Babe is shooting a video for an American company (based in Florida), yet has what sounds to be a thick East European accent, has an American flag patch on her jeans but wears a tee-shirt with the symbol and initials of a failed communist nation (CCCP), all to the tune of an AC/DC song about an American girl.

But in the end, does it really matter? Hot girl, cool gun, full auto, nice accessories, great soundtrack.

Caution: some (male) viewers report having to watch the clip up to 4 times before they notice that there is even a gun shown.

What’s Bigger Than a 50 Cal? *

The .577 T-Rex, a “modern day attempt to blend the giant .585 diameter 750 grain bullets of the .577 Nitro Express with the magic velocity of 2400 feet per second.” It is intended to be a last resort protection against charging big game (elephants, rhinoceroses, hippopotami, buffalo, and so on).

This video (probably from a range in Dubai) is a montage of shooters firing this punishing round from a rifle (rumored to be an A-Square Hannibal, although this is almost certainly not true). Depending on the powder, charge and barrel length, the .577 T-Rex can deliver over 12,000 foot pounds of energy. And these guys are doing it with a light rifle with no muzzle brake.

Is it just the testosterone in me, but after watching that do you want to try to handle that bad boy too?

* Yeah, I know there are larger calibers than a .577, but I don’t have videos of that. Although the last shot in the montage above may be a .700 Nitro.

And yes, I know that this has been floating around the Internet since 2001 or so. But it is fun to watch.

M134 Minigun Unleashed!

Posted January 26th, 2007 by AlphaPatriot and filed in Gun Stuff

There’s a video that’s a montage of clips showing the M134 Minigun being shot from a helicopter on the Military Channel’s website.

I swear, that’s so cool looking they should use it as a recruiting commercial. Nothing would make me want to sign up more than, “Dude, sign here and we’ll let you shoot one of these babies!”

BTW, the Minigun is made by the same people that make these calendars (I ordered eight of them last December and give them out as Christmas presents — you should see January in the Aero one!).

Picking the Best Gun

Chaos Reigns lists the best guns for the various reasons one would have to own a gun. The guy must know what he is talking about because my carry weapon (an earlier version of this) is the first on his list.

On the other hand, he errs on best target pistol by leaving High Standard off the list of recommendations. And please, a .50 pistol is best for entertainment? I don’t think so. Not as long as you have one of  around.

UN Report Denies “Right” of Self Defense

Posted August 30th, 2006 by AlphaPatriot and filed in Gun Stuff, Second Amendment, United Nations

A United Nations report states clearly and unequivocally: you have no right to defend yourself. Particularly with a gun. Period.

From the summary:

The principle of self-defense has an important place in international human rights law, but does not provide an independent, supervening right to small arms possession, nor does it ameliorate the duty of States to use due diligence in regulating civilian possession.

Just in case you were one of those doubting the “hidden” agenda of the UN to remove small arms possession from anyone except tyrants and thugs.

Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations applies to States acting in self-defense against armed attacks against their State sovereignty. It does not apply to situations of self-defense for individual persons.

Mao Tse-tung: 14 to 20 million dead. Joseph Stalin: 20 million dead. Pol Pot: 1 to 3 million dead. Kim Il Sung: 4 million dead. Adolf Hitler: 60 million dead.

The UN would never think to take weapons away from these monsters. But you and I — we are to be feared. Can’t trust us with guns!

Schmidt-Rubin K31

Posted July 9th, 2005 by AlphaPatriot and filed in Gun Stuff

My brother called last night to tell me about his latest purchase: a Swiss-made Schmidt-Rubin Model K31.

Schmidt-Rubin-Model-K31.gif

This weapon was designed in 1889 and continued to be produced into the 1960s with only a few minor modifications. And as they were issued to the citizen-soldiers of Switzerland, they have been lovingly and meticulously maintained.

Most commonly available with beech wood stocks, my brother paid a little more for one with a beautiful walnut stock.

One reviewer praises the weapon thusly:

I would rate the Swiss Schmidt-Rubins as among the most accurate military rifles ever produced. Their double stage triggers are just a joy to use.

Kim du Toit explains why he owns one:

In test after test, these old rifles produce target groups that are so tight, they can compete with scoped rifles over distances up to 300 yards.

Moreover, it has been estimated that if one were to try to reproduce the Schmidt-Rubin rifle today, to the same standards and tolerances as the Swiss used in their military-issue production, the rifles would cost well over $2,000.

And the K.31 can be had for only about $160 – $180. Incredible.

This is something else for me to look forward to during my next trip to Texas — a trip to the range to try this beauty out.
